This Week is National Drowning Prevention Week. Here’s Some Safety Tips to Remember When Boating this Season

This week is National Drowning Prevention Week and the RCMP are reminding the public about the importance of water safety.

Each year, the RCMP in New Brunswick respond to drownings that also occur while boating.

By wearing a PFD, you decrease the odds of a drowning incident should you become submerged in the water.

Some safety tips to remember when boating this season:

  • Always wear a personal flotation device (PFD) when on boats or watercraft.

  • Stick to water related activities within your capability or skill level.

  • Avoid areas of rough or fast moving water, strong tidal currents and surges.

  • Don’t consume alcohol or drugs while boating or participating in water
    activities.
