New Brunswick Schools Will be Provided With Free Menstrual Hygiene Products as Apart of a New Program
New Brunswick says it will now be providing free menstrual hygiene products in schools across the province. The government is providing $115,000 in funding for the new ‘Never Be Caught Off Guard’ Program.
The products will be available in female, gender-neutral washrooms, so Grade 6 to 12 students wont have to ask for them. The province wide move follows a pilot project that previously occurred at two Anglophone School District West high schools in the 2018-2019 school year.
According to the government, students who were surveyed as part of the project reported feeling less embarrassed, anxious, and stressed because they knew pads and tampons were readily available at school and they didn’t have to ask for them.
