New Brunswick Residents Could Face Up to a 2% Power Rate Hike in 2022

New Brunswick residents could face up to a 2% power rate hike in 2022 due to an overhaul of the Electricity Act.

The Telegraph Journal reports the government says the increase and the removal of a regulator’s decision-making power to approve or reject spending on the Mactaquac Dam are among major changes that will help NB Power to start hitting its financial targets and paying off almost $5 billion in debt.

It’s expected a legislative committee will discuss the proposed changes this week, send them back to the house for third and final reading, and then vote.
