New Bill Would Give New Brunswick’s Chief Medical Health Officer More Power to Issue Orders

Lessons learned in the COVID-19 pandemic have New Brunswick’s provincial government changing how Public Health can deal with future outbreaks.

The Chief Medical Officer of Health is being given more power to combat disease outbreaks like COVID-19 in a more targeted way, rather than sweeping emergency lockdowns.

Health Minister Dorothy Shepard says instead of locking down a whole health zone or the whole province, Public Health will be able to focus on just a city block or even a single apartment building with isolation orders.
