Boston Bruins Set to Retire Willie O’Ree’s Number 22 Jersey Before Game Against the Carolina Hurricanes

 

 

There will be another honor for the New Brunswicker who broke the color barrier in the NHL.

 

The Boston Bruins will retire Willie O’Ree’s number 22 jersey before tonight’s scheduled game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

 

O’Ree, who was born in Fredericton, NB, and is best known as the first Black player in the NHL, is the 12th number that the Bruins have retired in the franchises history. O’Ree will take part virtually from his home in San Diego, CA.
