A New Marine Robot Will be Introduced to Help Monitor and Protect Endangered North Atlantic Right Whales
A new marine robot will be used to help monitor and protect endangered North Atlantic right whales.
The underwater glider is the latest in a fleet of gliders operated by Dalhousie University and part of a $3.6 million dollar project over the next five years.
The glider is equipped with a new hydrophone that identifies the calls of the right whales and then reports the animals’ locations to help avoid collisions with ships in Canadian waters.
It’s believed there are fewer than 400 of the whales left in existence.
